SVA Course Curriculum - Systems to Support Operations in the 21st Century

Best in class businesses maintain their leadership position by making decisions that provide for the most effective way to manage information. This course will assist operations people in becoming competent to lead a systems effort. There is a need to maintain a level of simplicity while focusing on the true systems needs of the business.

Participants will learn how to diagnose current system(s), to determine strengths and deficiencies leading to a full understanding of all Business Requirements.

This course is designed to focus on users of a system, it does not intend to address the more technical (IS) issues associated with systems.

  • The realization that true systems requirements should not automatically translate to the purchase of a totally integrated ERP System and that there are multiple options when addressing real business needs.

  • Return on Investment - Implementing a system has such a high impact on an organization that it must include how to develop a calculation of the predicted return on investment.
  • Overview of the Major Segments of Business Systems - How to segment your current systems needs and compare them with available software and determine how to address only identified requirements
  • Best of Breed - When to make a decision to select Major Modules of a system from different software suppliers and how to integrate them
  • Avoiding Systems Overkill - When to resist the temptation to leave the integration to the software firm and end up purchasing a complex system that will be costly to implement.
  • Training Internal People to select and implement - Why it is important to demand that all business process decisions are made by knowledgeable, internal people. Who are trained in developing and selecting systems solutions.
